2021, the summer of staycations?
Updated: Dec 6, 2021
From Isolation to Staycation
After what has felt like an uphill battle for the hospitality sector earlier this year, the demand for staycations has skyrocketed to record levels.
With over 18 months of being in lockdowns and separated from loved ones, being together is a common theme of this year’s staycation season, with one in five people suggesting that UK holidays make it easier to meet family and friends whilst away.
To give some perspective, in 2019 the hospitality sector contributed £59.3 billion in Gross Value Added to the UK economy, around 3.0% of total UK economic output, and provided 6.9% of employment in the UK.
So it was a devastating shame to see the food & accommodation sector being one of the most negatively impacted sectors. Restrictions on trading have significantly impacted hospitality business turnover and halted much of trading.
55% of hospitality businesses temporarily paused trading in 2020, compared to 24% across all industries.
Almost 1 in 5 hospitality businesses (19%) feared that their business wouldn't survive the next 3 months during the onset of Covid-19 in 2020, and for many, this became a reality.
Staycations alone have helped the hotel and hospitality industry generate more business in a time of global health crisis, halting international travel and hotel occupancy numbers.
However, the hospitality industry has seen high take-up of UK Government business support schemes such as the CJRS and business loans (Click the link above to see how your business can receive support)
Staycation in Blackpool?
Blackpool is one of the UK’s most popular seaside resorts for a good reason: it’s basically been built for fun.
Blackpool holidays need no introduction... Neon lights and slots aside, there’s a lot to love about this classic North West resort.
you can visit attractions, such as the Blackpool Tower, Blackpool Pleasure Beach, or Trevors Foodservice?
or embrace the traditional seaside that’s attracted visitors since the 18th century. On a Blackpool staycation, you can watch a musical in the Opera House, admire the annual Blackpool Illuminations, take a Heritage Tram Tour, or get yourself down to the famous Notarianni's (check spelling) for ice cream…
